Coalition of Artists for the Walbran

Save the HeART of the Walbran Valley:
An Artistic Multi-Media Celebration of an Endangered Ancient Forest, June 24-26

Visual, sound and performing artists of all media- dance, paint, print, carving, photography, sculpture, poetry, spoken word, theatre, video, music etc. are invited to participate in an art show to celebrate the natural beauty of one of Canada's most spectacular remaining and still unprotected ancient temperate rainforests- in the Central Walbran Valley, a small pocket of wilderness adjacent to Carmanah/Walbran Provincial Park, Pacheedaht/Qwa-ba-diwa territory.

Starting on June 24, an affinity group calling itself Coalition of Artists for the Walbran! (CAW!) in conjunction with the Friends of Carmanah/Walbran will host a camping trip for artists of all media to the heart of this ancient forest watershed, to witness first-hand the natural beauty of the forest and to begin artistic compositions and creations inspired by this world-class ecological treasure.

These will be shared will be shared publicly at a multi-media fundraiser show, in Victoria in September, 2016 and touring the south and Gulf islands thereafter, to support the campaign.

Those who are committed to join the gathering of artists in the magnificent and threatened ancient temperate rainforest of Central Walbran valley on the June 24-26th weekend, please confirm by emailing:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Farmland Protection Coalition Update

From Cheryl McLachlan:
"Sadly, I note on the ALC (Agricultural Land Commission) webpage that the
ALC Vancouver Island Panel has approved one Langford property owners'
exclusive application that was done under the new formula of paying
$13.45/meter squared on the excluded land to the City of Langford's
Agricultural Reserve Fund. The rationale, as insane as it sounds. being
money can be a net benefit to agriculture..."

"Happily I note this parcel was excluded on the rationale outlined in the
decision with the Panel discounting this money formula was in anyway
part of their decision. The reason given for granting the exclusion was
that lots smaller than 2 acres are not necessarily governed by the ALC
and this lot, due to previous subdivisions is .5 of an acre so the ALC
Vancouver Island Panel granted the exclusion. So, while granting this exclusion, the Panel is not supporting the insane idea that is the backbone of the City of Langford's block exclusion of half of all the ALR lands within the City of Langford. So for now, that is good news!"
