Official SEA EVENT
MAy 8th, 2018
7pm - 9pm
1923 Fernwood Rd
Fernwood Community Association
Workshop: Online Anonymity and
Security for Activists
Hosted by Indigenous Solidarity Working Group and Social Environmental Alliance - SEA
In light of recent high-profile data breach scandals worldwide, join the activist community for this unique and timely workshop dedicated to digital security issues!
Throughout the evening, we will be considering the current situation within the larger frameworks of neoliberalism, corporatocracy, state surveillance vs private surveillance, power/knowledge, plus "Know your Rights."
- Part 1: An introduction to protecting yourself, your information, and your privacy online.
- Part 2: Build on the way we have looked at our browsing and internet security by focusing on the smart phone as a weak point for anonymity, especially as an activist.
- Part 3: Suggest tactics and angles that activists can use/employ to increase their anonymity, and to posting anonymously to boards and sharing information with friends/allies.
- Part 4: Tie in the idea of net security into why we are doing what we are doing in the first place, and why it is important to factor net security into what we do.

Non-violent Direct Action Training Against Kinder Morgan
April 22nd, 2018
1 - 5pm
1415 Broad St, Victoria
Victoria Event Center

Want to learn more about nonviolent moral action this spring to challenge indigenous racism, the dirty carbon economy and Trudeau’s deceptive climate narrative?
Thinking of participating in local civil disobedience actions being organized by Rise & Resist in Victoria or the international mass mobilization against the Kinder Morgan pipeline in Burnaby?
In the spirit and tradition of everyday people of conscience engaging in nonviolent direct action/risking arrest to expose and engage in moral witness against injustice, we will conduct a training at 1-5pm on April 22 in Victoria, B.C. followed by a potluck dinner, climate emergency speakers (6:30-9), and dancing and song until midnight.
Experienced trainers from the Rise & Resist collective and Greenpeace Victoria will facilitate the training.
It's important that participants plan to attend the full training. Format will include small and large group discussion, role-plays and other interactive exercises. Please dress comfortably.
There is no fee to attend the training, but we will collect donations at the event to help cover costs.

Because it's 2018: No Public Funds for Pipeline Genocide
8am - 9am on April 23rd, 2018
1415 Vancouver St, Victoria, BC
Join us at 8 AM sharp on Monday, April. 23, at the Federal Tax Services Building at 1415 Vancouver Street, Victoria, Coast Salish Territories.
Kinder Morgan has blinked. The world watches. For 150 years, Canada has built its "National Interest" on the backs of Indigenous people through the destruction of the means by which Indigenous Nations have lived since time immemorial. The announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to use public financial resources to further subsidize a land-destroying multinational corporation marks a potent escalation and flash point in this long colonial history. Now is the time to turn the genocidal tide towards justice.

CANCELLED
Wild Salmon Street Party!
April 21st, 201811am
1040 Marwood Ave, Luxton Fairgrounds
*****UPDATE: Event Cancelled*****
We are writing to let everyone know that we have chosen to cancel this event. Since committing to it, we have learned that the permission granted by Esquimalt and Songhees to host fish farm eviction solidarity events lapsed with Tsastilqualus' departure for her home territory.
Given that Esquimalt First Nation is mourning the unexpected passing of hereditary Chief Andy Thomas, we want to allow for some time to pass before we approach the Nation to renew our request to organize public actions on this very important issue.
At the same time, we want to indicate that Rose Henry has affirmed she and some salmon warriors will be at the Luxton Fairgrounds on the 21st for those who feel that they want to observe their commitment to remove fish farms from Kwakwaka'wakw waters and hold the government accountable for Site C and other empty promises. Thank you!
