 TOXIC SHAWNIGAN ALERT

  Fellow Member Fights SIA Injunction

Thursday Dec. 3rd at 10am our friend and long time SEA member Shemama will go to Supreme Court in Victoria to defend her right to protest or rally support on social media to stop the dumping of contaminated soil in Shawnigan Lake’s headwaters, the source of drinking water for 12,000 people.

Shemama has not broken any law, the police have not arrested her. She has been the loudest and most vexatious voice in her efforts to protect our watershed from South Island Aggregates (SIA).

Join Event

Please come to court this Thursday to watch the proceedings and we need so many people that we will spill into the street where we can carry signs and possibly circle the block past the homeless encampment. Take an early lunch if you work in Victoria or the morning off but please Come Out if you can

Please share this with every person you know who cares about Shawnigan Lake and our civil liberties. Pure Clean Water is our most sacred commons.

December 9th will be a critical day in the grassroots Homes for All initiative. On this day, the CRD Hospital Board Directors will meet at 1:30PM to vote on the Regional Housing First Initiative. We need your active support to ensure that the powers that be say yes to a solution. Join us!

Join us in moving Victoria into an ecologically responsible future. We all know that our government will not get us there without encouragement, nor will oil companies stop pumping, so why don't we help Victoria kick a nasty habit. No one wants to take vehicles away from anyone. However, we can advocate for the improvement of healthier, more efficient means of transportation.

This will benefit everyone in the community whether they choose to drive or not. Help us clear Victoria streets of traffic congestion by supporting more active forms of transportation.

Proposed SEA Group "Car Free Victoria" will seek:

  1. Free and vastly improve public transit systems
  2. Dramatically improved cycling infrastructure
  3. Modern bike share and car share programs
  4. Certain streets to be ruled car free (ie. Government and Broad)

This action plan began at the recent Activists Assembly lead by Josh, SEA members and other attending activists. They will be signing up potential participants at these Salons and discussing the group's plans at the next SEA members meeting.
